What’s New?

I launched this site in April 2012 with 21 articles and wrote a dozen more during the rest of that year.  I added 15 more in 2013, the most recent being about Hemingway Days in Key West.

Some article titles don’t tell exactly what the subject is so I’ve revised the category names to tell you.  So, if you want to read about gin, look under gin.

I also completed a complete review of all articles standardizing formats, rewriting a couple things, and correcting a few errors.  Same content; it just looks prettier.

Some browsers have the annoying practice of highlighting random words and offering links to things they think you desperately want to know.  This confuses legitimate links I put in to things I think you might want to know.  So, if you point to a highlighted word and it pops up a picture, that’s not mine.  No picture, the link will take you to something actually related to the article’s subject.

I hadn’t added anything new to this site for several years largely because I ran out of topics I wanted to write about.  During this time the site fell gradually into disrepair (Booo, Hisss) such as all the category references going away and about a hundred updates to WordPress that hadn’t been applied.  This is all fixed now and I’ll pay better attention in the future.  For example, the Kentucky Bourbon Trail has nine member distilleries now instead of six so descriptions of the three new ones have been added to that article

In case you’re wondering, here are answers to some Occasionally Asked Questions:

  • This site is hosted at www.fatcow.com.
  • I designed and built it myself using their WordPress product.
  • The layout theme is WordPress Twenty-Ten.
  • My RSS feed does not work because I haven’t set it up.   Quite frankly, I’m completely baffled about how to do it.  I’ve followed all the “Oh, it’s easy-peasy” directions from various sources but no luck.  Maybe I’ll figure it out someday.  Or maybe not.  Turns out RSS feeds are fading into history so I won’t have to solve it after all.
  • I do not copy articles from other sites.  I gather write-ups from many sources to get a sense of the story, then write it in my own words.  If I use a substantial amount from a particular source, I credit that source in a footnote.
  • Some articles are completely original, specifically those where I experiment making a particular classic cocktail.
  • Yes, the pages would be more interesting with pictures and videos and I’ll add some as I gradually improve the site.  (About 3/4 of the articles have pictures now.)
  • No, I am not seeking guest authors; this is my sandbox.
  • I don’t invite comments because most come from automated sources and are not relevant to the subject matter.
  • You may use material from this site if you credit the source.
